Head of the Avon
DARTMOUTH’S Men’s under 18 quadruple sculls crew made the trip to the Head of the Avon, Evesham Rowing Club’s main Head race, not to race as a quad crew but to race each other in double sculls. The Head was split into two divisions to allow doubling up which gave the Dartmouth crews the opportunity of competing at Under 18 and Novice. Conditions over the 4000 metre upstream course were calm with a light breeze and a small current, but bitterly cold. It was a well organised Head with officials making every effort to get crews on the water on time to reduce waiting time. The overall winners were a Men’s Under 18 quadruple scull from Bewdley who finished the course in 15 minutes 50 seconds. In the Men’s Under 18 double sculls category Dartmouth’s Mike Tilley and Nick Crang finished second in 18:56 and 31st overall behind Bewdley who finished 28th overall in 18:46. Dartmouth’s Chris Ely and Nick Crang were third in the category and 52nd overall in 20:19 In the Men’s Novice double sculls category Dartmouth’s Mike Tilley and Nick Crang won the category finishing 37th overall in 19:17 with the pair celebrating their first Head win and Nick Crang’s first ever win. Second in category were Dartmouth’s Chris Ely and Richie Jeffs who were 46th overall in 19:52. They were followed home in their category by Stratford-Upon Avon, 53rd overall in 20:21 and Evesham, 67th overall in 21:41. Ends Pic attached. Pic.IMG_04791.
