Vesta Scullers Head SCULLERS from Dart Totnes and Dartmouth impressed at the 55th Scullers Head organised by Vesta Rowing Club. The Head is a processional race for single sculls over the 4.25 mile championship course from Mortlake to Putney. First sculled in 1954, this year's race involved almost 500 scullers attracting entries from all over the United Kingdom and the world, with standards ranging from internationals to novices. The Head was won by GB Beijing Olympian Alastair Campbell of Tideway Scullers who finished in 20 minutes 30.57 seconds but the West of England’s top sculler, Elliot Barton of Dart Totnes gave an extremely impressive performance to finish 24th overall in 21:29.85 and 2nd in his category of Men’s Senior 2. Hugh Tubbs of Dart Totnes won his category of Men’s Veteran F in 23:10.02 finishing 214th overall and clubmate John Harris finished third in the same category in 23:20.22 and 234th overall. Another excellent result came from Dartmouth’s Sam Tilley who was second in the Ladies Under 18 category in 24:26.51 and 340th overall. In the same category Judith Rice of Dart Totnes was 4th in 24:34.14 and 350th overall. Other results included Rose Willoughby of Dart Totnes who was 10th in the Ladies Lightweight Senior 3 category in 24:36.30 and 355th overall; and Michael Tilley of Dartmouth who was 26th in the Men’s Under 18 category in 24:46.71 and 369th overall. |
