Wimbleball Regatta A GOOD entry at Wimbleball Regatta enjoyed perfect conditions with no wind, warm weather and no incidents on the 1200 metre course on Wimbleball Lake, a man-made reservoir set high in the hills of Exmoor. Dart Totnes again excelled with thirteen event wins to win the Championship of the Day and Dartmouth also picked up a couple of trophies. The major Championship event, the Men’s Senior A coxed fours, was a two boat race between the Dart Totnes crew of James Lovering, Sam Pettitt, Steve Clarke, Meyrick Tooley and cox, Louise Hawkyard, and the Torquay crew of Paul Dallyn, Chris Akers, Nick Cleasby, Mike Cresser and cox, Katie Cudmore, with Dart Totnes rowing to a comfortable three length win. There was no Race at Men’s Senior B coxed fours but at Men’s Senior C coxed fours it was another win for Dart Totnes with the crew of Jared Hemming, Sam Pettitt, Steve Clarke, Meyrick Tooley and cox, Claire Gardner, three quarters of a length winners from Exeter with Dartmouth’s Richie Jeffs, Matt Sheldon, Chris China, Dave Langmead, Chrissie Rugg, a further four lengths down in third place. At Men’s Novice coxed fours the Dart Totnes crew of Alex Woodward, Matt Vincent, Ben Byron-Edmonds, Tim Whittet and cox, Maggie Hawkyard, were one length winners from Exeter and at Men’s Under 18 coxed fours the Dart Totnes crew of Sam Richardson, Sam Pettit, James Lovering, Meyrick Tooley and cox, Maggie Hawkyard, were three length winners from Plymouth with Dartmouth’s Richie Jeffs, Chris Ely, Nick Crang, Mike Tilley and cox, Marie Dayment, third. In the Men’s Championship coxed quadruple sculls the Dart Totnes crew of Jordan Hall, Sam Richardson, Alex Rowe, Simon Kerswell-Jensen and cox, Louise Hawkyard, were winners at Under 16 by just a canvas from Plymouth with Bideford Blues third and at Under 14 the Dart Totnes crew of Luke Reiser, Fraser Tooley, Tom Larcombe, Callum Jones and cox, Dakota Ferrara, were three length winners from Bideford Reds with the Dart Totnes B crew of Tom Parry-Jones, Joe Oswald, Emily Edwards, Toby Wilkinson and cox, Maggie Hawkyard, a further three lengths down in third place. In the Ladies Championship coxed fours Bideford Reds beat Dartmouth’s Lisa Jeffrey, Chrissie Rugg, Suzie Bowden, Fiona Dayment and cox, Marie Dayment, by two lengths at Senior A; there was no race at Senior B; Exeter were one length winners at Senior C from Dartmouth’s Lisa Jeffrey, Chrissie Rugg, Suzie Bowden, Fiona Dayment and cox, Marie Dayment, who were just a canvas from the third placed Dart Totnes crew of Janet Richardson, Zoe Butcher, Mandy Larcombe, Caroline Woffindale and cox, Claire Gardner; Bideford Blues were easy winners from Plymouth at Novice with the Dart Totnes crew of Jackie Hamilton-Kates, Debs Keane, Ann King, Iris Tapper and cox, Jessamy Larcombe, third; and Exeter beat the Dart Totnes crew of Jessamy Larcombe, Claire Gardner, Emma Reiser, Louise Hawkyard and cox, James Lovering, by five lengths at Under 18. In the Ladies Championship coxed quadruple sculls there was no race at Under 14 and at Under 16 Bideford Blues just pipped the Dart Totnes crew of Iris Tapper, Jess Larcombe, Emma Reiser, Louise Hawkyard and cox, Claire Gardner, by half a canvas with Exeter a further four lengths behind in third place. The Championship single sculls provided wins for Simon Kerswell-Jensen of Dart Totnes at Men’s Senior C; Todd of Plymouth at Men’s Novice; Wilmington of Exeter at Men’s Under 18; Dawson of Plymouth at Men’s Under 16; Tom Larcombe of Dart Totnes at Men’s Under 14; Reinoso-Maset of Plymouth at Ladies Novice; Jackson of Bideford Blues at Ladies Under 18 and Under 16; and Verity Phillips of Dart Totnes dead-heated with Blackoe of Plymouth at Ladies Under 14. There were wins in the supporting events for the Dart Totnes crew of Sam Richardson, Matt Vincent, James Lovering, Sam Pettitt, Jared Hemming, Tim Whittet, Steve Clarke, Meyrick Tooley and cox, Will Hawkyard, at Men’s Open eights; Dartmouth’s Lisa Jeffrey, Suzie Bowden, Chris China, Dave Langmead and cox, Marie Dayment, at Mixed Open coxed fours; Alex Rowe and Simon Kerswell-Jensen at Men’s Senior C double sculls; Dartmouth’s Matt Sheldon and Dave Langmead at Men’s Novice double sculls; Luke Reiser and Jasper Schroeder at Men’s Under 14 double sculls; and Lucy Chudley and Verity Phillips at Ladies Under 14 double sculls.
