DARC & Dart Gig Club Holly Ball

DARTMOUTH’S Rowing community Rolled back the years last Saturday with the first ‘Holly Ball’ for decades.

The Holly Ball was always held at the Guildhall for many years by Dartmouth Amateur Rowing Club, but it fell out of fashion. However, DARC and the Dart Gig Club have joined forces to resurrect the event, this time at the Flavel and 95 people came along for food, fun and dancing.

Jenny Pichowski, one of the organisers, said the event had gone amazingly well, and they are already looking forward to next year’s event.

‘It was the first Holly Ball in so many years and it was great fun,’ she said. ‘We had a three-course sit down meal which was provided by The Royal Castle Hotel and the food was brilliant.  The venue proved to be perfect and was decorated to give it the Christmas touch.  Music was supplied by local DJ Richard Baker and people danced the night away until 1am.
‘It was organised by three members of Dartmouth Amateur Rowing Club and three members of the Dart Gig Club.  The evening proved to be a great success and any money raised will be split between the two clubs.
‘This will now become an annual event and is already on the calendar for the same time next year - Sat 4th December at The Flavel.
‘The two clubs would like to express there thanks to everyone who supported the ball and to those who helped contribute to making the evening a success - The Royal Castle Hotel, Richard Baker and The Flavel along with everyone else who helped us to make it a great night for all.  We would also like to thank all the local businesses who were generous in giving us prizes for the Raffle.’
