Monmouth Sprint and Monmouth Regatta

 

Six of Dartmouth ARC’s juniors made the trip to Monmouth for the 750m Sprint and 1500m Regatta on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May, coming home with a total of 14 tankards.  

The J15 4x+ of Mat Dayment, TJ Lang, Richie Jeffs and Mike Tilley coxed by Chrissy Rugg won on Saturday over the shorter course. 

The seventeen year old scullers of Sam Tilley and Chrissy Rugg, in their first race together as a double scull, came a spirited second in their senior4 heat, losing to a far more experienced and larger senior crew from Bristol Ariel RC. 

TJ Lang and Richie Jeffs also in their first race together as a double scull won their heat easily, only to have the misfortune of having a footplate break midrace whilst in the lead, bringing them to the finish line second. 

The J15 1x was an all Dartmouth final between Mike Tilley, and Matt Dayment, with Mike beating clubmate Matt to the finish line to take first place. 

Sam Tilley won her WJ18 1x heat to then beat Laura Atkinson of Bideford “reds” ARC in the final. 

Saturday was a successful days racing winning three finals and everybody winning a pot. 

Sunday was also a successful over the longer distance. The same J15 4x_ crew beat Monmouth School with a verdict of easily. 

The same J15 2x won their heat against Monmouth school only to be beaten by a crew who won at the National Schools Regatta the previous day. 

Sam Tilley won her WJ18 1x  final and WS3 1x heat comfortably only to lose her WS3 heat. 

Matt won his J15 1x heat to make yet another all Dartmouth final after Mike’s opposition scratched. Mike then beat his club mate to win his category and get his fourth tankard of the weekend. 

All in all, an excellent outing for Dartmouth ARC. The six juniors who competed would like to thank coach Paul “Bungy” Williams and all the parents who made it possible to have such a fantastic weekend away, even though it did rain all day Sunday. 

The next race Dartmouth ARC will be attending will be one of three weekends awat on the trot at WEARA’s first regatta of the season. Hopefully the 1000m course at Plymouth will see even more club members win even more pots.
